For Mother

Image
Mother's Day is rapidly approaching! It is hard to believe that May is almost here. Wow, this year is truly flying by! This year I want to do something really "special" for Mom. No matter what I make she always raves about it! Funny... she raved about my lopsided coloring I brought home in Kindergarten. My mother always appreciates gifts from the heart and that is why I wanted to do something a little unusual this year. Today's card is dimensional... and will require an extra large envelope.

I created the fan by cutting 3 strips of 2 X 12 inch designer paper. I then scored them at 1/4" intervals carefully folding each (gable style). I then adhered each strip end to end. I then used scor-tape to adhere the final two ends together. I then glued the fan to a piece of card stock. I used a hot glue gun to accomplish this so there would be little movement. To cover the center I cut images from the Cricut Paper Lace cart and added them to the top. The ribbon I used is …

The Anchor

Image
Ahoy mateys! I have wanted to do something nautical for awhile. Unfortunately, this land lubber has been moored in the same rut. (Sorry... I can't resist...) I finally decided to set sail and get something done! (I really can't stop myself...)The catalyst was a fabulous paper pad I found recently by DCWV, specifically the Nantucket Collection! I just love all the red, white and blue papers! The theme lends itself well to a recent ODBD release, Anchor. And I have been dying to do something with banners... so here goes...

This card was submitted for this week's Mojo Monday challenge.

Father's Day

Praying that everyone is having a blessed start to their week! I hope the sun is shining at your back door today (and might I add your front door as well... lol) Things have been a little chaotic at the Ulrich household. My youngest step-son has been home from college. Dear hubby has been to the doctor not once but three times now... with no signs of getting better! He has a nasty respiratory infection. Please add him to your prayers! He had pneumonia a few years back and I am deeply concerned at his failure to improve.

I am going to call today's card a Lori Lite... kinda like the Cricut lites... Usually my cards are elaborate but this time I decided to simplify. Not sure where this card will go this year but I'm sure one of the fellows in the family will love it! I look forward to being back soon with a not so Lori Lite posting... ;-)

Blessings to you and yours!

Happy Resurrection Sunday!

Image
I hope that you and yours are having a glorious Easter! The weather has been relatively nice here. Yesterday we had one of those southern "gully washers." We had 5 inches of rain in one day! Mom and I made a trip into town to get a few last minute items for dinner today and had to turn back not once but twice due to high water! Thankfully, we got home safely and made it out to Easter Services today. But the rain has returned and the forecast calls for rain and flooding all week! Yuck!

You know I really shouldn't complain. The cool thing about it... I serve a risen Savior! And that means no troubles... He defeated death and the devil. So what do I have to fear? A little rain, wind and such may be trying but ultimately it doesn't mean a thing! Here's to not being troubled....

Happy Easter everyone!

Today's card is for a challenge over at Stampin' Sisters in Christ. The challenge was to create a round card! Check out their wonderful challenges! They always li…

It is hard to believe this will be my last post as a guest designer for the ODBD Shining the Light Challenge! I want to thank the ladies on the teams as well as the owner, Kelley, for allowing me the opportunity. There will be a new guest designer next month and let me tell ya... you won't be disappointed! It is true, time flies when you are having fun! And I am excited to get back to playing in these fabulous challenges!

So here is this week's info. We are creating with a sketch! Each month ODBD will be featuring a card from a either a member of the ODBD design or the challenge team. We will create a sketch that cases the card design. This month's featured designer is the talented and sweet, Grace Nywening, the DT coordinator at ODBD. The complete sketch and details can be found at ODBD's blog.

Here is my entry this week...

Give Us This Day

Have you ever heard the phrase "don't sweat the small stuff?" It reminds me of all those years ago when I was a struggling college student. I was blessed to have a scholarship to pay for my schooling. I was an independent sort (can you imagine...) and didn't want to have my parents pay for my spending money. They were dairy farmers and as many of you know, the life of a farmer can be anything but profitable! So I went to work the summer after my freshman year. And I continued to work during breaks. By my junior year I was working 30+ hours a week and finally, my senior year, I accepted a full-time opening with the company. It was difficult. I worked 40+ hours a week and carried a full time class load. And boy, did I ever sweat "all the stuff..." lol... I worried about everything! I was so stressed out that I really didn't get to enjoy my college years and particularly my last semester! Didn't matter if the problem was large or small... I obsessed ab…

Blessed is the Nation

I hope you are having a wonderful Sunday! We have been battling high wind and rain the last few days. Nothing like our neighbors to the south, however! My prayers are with those affected in the deep south by the rash of spring tornados and high winds.

Today I have a "hybrid" card for you. In this example I used stamps from two companies. As many of you know from some of my previous posts, I love anything red, white and blue. My home is awash with both colors. I come by it honestly. Both sides of my family have a record of patriotic service. I have at least one direct ancestor in each war in American history with one exception... the Spanish - American War... My father's family settled Kentucky many years ago on a Revolutionary War land grant that was given to one of his direct ancestors in return for his wartime service. My father served in the Marines during the Korean Conflict (Semper Fi).... Dad passed on 15 years ago this May. And it seems like this ti…

Mighty To Save

Image
This week has been eventful already. Our newest grandbaby, Emma Grace, had surgery yesterday to correct an abnormality in her urinary tract. Thankfully, all is well. She will be spending a few days in the hospital to recover. It was so hard to see her little four month body hooked up to tubes, catheters and the like. I know how I feel about medical stuff... I just can't imagine how she feels!

During the coming days I will be traveling on business. I have a few posts ahead to share. Blessings to you and I pray you are having a wonderful week!

Come Unto Me

Image
Have you ever ordered something, waited patiently for it to arrive and then wonder how you will use it? Well, one of the stamps I used for today's project just about never saw the light of day! It's a beautiful stamp but boy it made me nervous! I was afraid I couldn't live up to it's beauty! Since I love peonies this image seemed perfect. I guess I didn't read the dimensions. When I received it I was unsure what to do with it! I thought... how in the world will I use this big of a stamp???

So I stashed it on my stamp shelf and promptly forgot about it... until last night. I stamped the image on plain white card stock (twice)... spritzed it with some Smooch Spritz and then waited. I thought inspiration would hit! lol... Well, let me tell ya... I still wasn't feeling inspired... So then I decided to cut one up and EUREKA the light bulb went off! The second image is actually layered on the first. I carefully glued each section of petals on (with strong glue dots) …

So Sorry - Sympathy Card ** Lengthy Post Alert

Image
In July of 2005, hubby and I locked the door behind us and set out on an adventure. At that time we were buying St. Bernards to start our program. In order to find the best of the best we had to drive. And since we had to drive anyway, we decided to make a trip of it. I wanted to see Mt. Rushmore.

As the days leading up to our departure ticked away, I continued to find other destinations. I poured over the Atlas (yes, people still use those) to find new and exciting spots to tour. One morning as I prepared for work, I happily told hubby that Yellowstone was just a half days drive away. The next day I mentioned Glacier National Park in Montana. Oh, but don't forget the Battle of Little Big Horn in Wyoming... and did I mention all the cool Lewis and Clark stuff?

So on D - Day or in this case Friday, John and I loaded my little Pontiac, locked the door and left on our road trip. A little over 24 four hours later we arrived in Rapid City, South Dakota in the same clothes w…

Love You

Image
This is so very true! I love all of you! I have met so many wonderful people since I started this blog 2 plus years ago. I treasure each and every friendship and every kind word of encouragement. There are days that are difficult I must admit. But I know that when I am down my heavenly Father will lift me up. And more often than not he uses some pretty special "angels" to do his work. Thank you for all you do for me dear readers. It is greatly appreciated!

Now on to today's card. I LOVE to make frilly cards! No kidding you say??? lol... But every once in a while it is nice to just do something simple. A wonderful stamping buddy of mine holds card classes. And with each class you receive a set of stamps plus the supplies to make 4 cards. I love that! It frees me up from the stress of figuring out how to make ink and paper look pretty... lol...

In February, her theme was Valentine's Day. Well, I had something come up and could not attend. Yesterday I d…

Happy Easter!

Image
I dare you NOT to smile after looking at this designer paper! Ah ha! I caught ya! You thought I wasn't looking! Isn't this just the cutest thing ever? I found this paper a year or so back and put it in my stash to languish. I couldn't believe my good fortune when I found it again! I love those kind of happy accidents! This week I am playing along with the Cardabilities crew. I decided to enter this cutey for their sketch challenge! Thanks so much for spending a few minutes of your hectic day with me! Blessings to you and yours!

The Greatest Treasures

Image
I'm doing something a little different today. A dear friend of mine recently had a stamp party at my house. Can you believe people do that? Oh my, I definitely need a twelve step program! :-) I had the opportunity to purchase a few sets. Naturally I couldn't wait to put them to good use! This particular sentiment really spoke to me.

The Bible says what we say reflects what our heart holds. The strongest Christians I have known in my life have had beautiful hearts. They care for people around them. They take time out of a hectic day to put someone at ease. They go out of their way to be kind to others. When they speak, you feel a sense of comfort and peace. This card is delightfully simple but complex all at the same time. It reflects the essence of those wonderful people. The greatest treasure we can give truly comes from the heart. Blessings to you! Give of your heart and it is bound to come back to you!

Mothers

Image
Mothers have a rough job! Might I add... a thankless one! I laugh when I hear some of the stories my Mom tells about my childhood (like the time I put a kitten in the refrigerator...) The kitten was fine... Fluffy was only in there for two to three minutes... But my poor mother had to completely clean out the frig as a result of this escapade. Then there was the time I crumbled Oreo cookies in the fish tank... I liked them, so wouldn't they? (Another 3 year old stunt...) You get the picture... my mother is a saint and believe you me... she could discipline me. And from the sound of it... it was well deserved! lol...

To this day, if something is wrong, I talk to Mom. Her mere presence comforts me when I am troubled. Just a few months back I was very ill. Who did I ask for? Mom, of course... Today's verse shares God's promise that just like our mothers we can count on him for comfort. That is wonderful to know. God always loves us and will always be th…

This is the Lord's Day

Image
It is another beautiful Lord's day in Kentucky. The birds are singing and there is the promise of 60 degree temps today! We have had a slow start to spring but hopefully the weather will make some improvements over the coming days.

Today I have a very simple card featuring one of last month's ODBD releases, Daffodil Tag Set. Over the last few weeks, I have been experimenting with different textures and materials in my cards. Today I used denim! I own one pair of jeans so finding scraps would be impossible but I did find some neat denim patches in the sewing supplies department of my local store. But if you have some old jeans around that would work even better! Thanks for reading and have a wonderful day!
